Letter to the Times Literary Supplement, August 2017 (Unpublished)
In 1913, Virginia Woolf wrote a piece for the Times Literary Supplement (TLS) sharing some of her thoughts about Jane Austen. It was republished in the TLS on July 18th, 2017. In this letter to the TLS of August 2017 (unpublished), I try to disentangle some of Woolf’s thoughts in her article, in order to clarify the substance of Woolf’s barely veiled critical ambivalence toward Austen.
